Dogana da Mar
In an atmosphere similar to that of the painting representing part of Piazzetta San Marco, the painter Francesco Guardi shows us here the Dogana da Mar, that is to say, the Punta della Douana in Venice.

In the foreground, a gondolier wearing a yellow jacket rowing on his gondola covered by a felze with such energy that he traces a groove on the water of the Grand Canal and will not take long to overtake the gondolier on the right, who is obviously in no hurry.

You can see gondolas and transport boats moored along Pointe de la Douane.

In the background, sailing boats are moored, or sailing on the Giudecca Canal, passing between Dogana and the houses of Giudecca Island.

At the top of the Dogana building, Fortune, perched on its globe carried by the Atlanteans, stands in the middle of the clouds.

The greenish-grey colour of the globe and the statues perfectly illustrate the oxidation of the copper used to make them.

Currently, the globe is covered with gold leaf, and Atlanteans like Fortune are in golden tones.
