Jesus with a Lamb
In this touching picture of softness and tenderness, the Child Jesus delicately embraces the Lamb, which seems to be his pet.

The Lamb has been the symbolic animal of sacrifices since the time of Abraham.

When Christians began to celebrate Easter to celebrate the death of Jesus and his Resurrection, the Passover Lamb subsequently became the mystical Lamb designating Jesus Christ:
“Here is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (Jn 1:29).

Bernardino Luini shows the Infant Jesus embracing his destiny, which makes this picture even more moving.
